Distracted driving may lead to car accidents in Georgia
Whenever Georgia drivers get behind the wheel, they must consider not only their safety but the safety of everyone else on the roadway. Distracted drivers are a common cause of car accidents that result in serious injuries or fatalities. This is why it is so important for drivers to remain aware of their surroundings. One woman was recently killed and several others were injured in a collision with a driver who may have been distracted.
According to Georgia State Patrol, the victims had stopped their truck on the left shoulder of I-75, partially in the HOV lane. The driver and three other passengers had exited the vehicle to attempt to change a tire. Police say that a driver in another vehicle crashed into the truck and then hit the victims standing outside of it.
Tragically, one of passengers from the truck was killed at the scene. The driver and two other passengers were injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. The driver believed to be at fault was uninjured as was his passenger. It is currently unknown whether any criminal charges will be filed as the incident is still under investigation by authorities.
Families who have lost loved ones in car accidents may consider filing wrongful death claims in civil court against drivers who are believed to be responsible. When these claims successfully prove negligence, claimants can be awarded monetary damages that could help pay for medical bills, funeral costs and any other expenses related to the accident. Anyone interested in learning more about this type of claim could consult an experienced Georgia personal injury attorney.
