Truck accidents likely to cause fatalities
Interstates can be dangerous due to the amount of traffic they receive and the fact that the speed limit is typically higher than on smaller roads. When drivers of larger vehicles like tractor-trailers are reckless on the interstate, truck accidents can be deadly. One such accident in Georgia involving a big rig and seven other vehicles recently left multiple people injured and several dead.
It is still unknown what initially caused the crash. However, local officials stated that the semi truck ran up over a pickup truck and another small vehicle, which caused both of those vehicles to go up in flames. Five other vehicles were also involved in the collision, though specific details were not released.
Two victims in the vehicles that caught fire were pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were taken to a local hospital in critical condition, and one of them died later. The driver of the semi was arrested and charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving.
Even though criminal charges have been filed against the driver believed responsible for the collision, the surviving victims and the families of the deceased victims could still file individual personal injury claims or wrongful death claims in civil court. If their claims successfully prove negligence on behalf of that driver, they could be awarded monetary damages that could help pay for medical bills, funeral costs or other monetary damages related to the crash. Others who have been injured or lost loved ones in truck accidents could consult experienced Georgia attorneys to obtain more information regarding these types of claims.
